Erykah Badu: Voodoo Goddess

Occultism in Hollywood

Erykah Badu

Erykah Badu stands out as a celebrity who openly embraces her spirituality, a contrast to many others who keep such matters hidden. She was once a favorite artist of mine before my Christian faith took precedence. However, my perception of her shifted when I had the opportunity to meet her at a backstage concert; the experience was intriguing, though not necessarily positive.

This article aims to shed light on Erykah Badu's spiritual practices and serve as a warning to fellow Christians about the potential pitfalls of idolizing celebrities over placing faith in God.  Badu's spirituality is deeply rooted in New Age beliefs, which are often equated with witchcraft in the Bible. She holds the title of a third-degree Reiki master and also works as a doula for both birth and death processes. Her spiritual inclinations have been a subject of interest for Vogue magazine and have been discussed repeatedly.

In her most recent interview, Badu revealed that she has incorporated delta, zeta, or beta waves as a layer in her music since 1997, suggesting that her spiritual practices may influence her work. Daily meditation with Eastern influences is an integral part of her routine, and she openly shares her spiritual instruments used to work on various chakras and infuse her music with specific energy waves.  Some of these instruments, she claims, were acquired during her repeated Ayahuasca ceremonies, which have gained popularity in the Hollywood industry. Badu openly encourages the purchase of New Age channeling instruments and similar items.

It becomes evident that listening to her music may be incompatible with Christianity due to her involvement in practices often considered witchcraft, as highlighted in Ephesians 5:11-14.  Beyond her music, Badu's distinctive hats and their unconventional shapes have long piqued curiosity. Now, it's known that these hats may also serve as conduits for channeling various entities.  Celebrities like Badu often refer to a higher force they call the "universe," but it's worth noting that this force may not be the Creator but rather, as 2 Corinthians 4:4 describes, Satan, the "prince of this world."  Badu's association with the occult is not a recent development. Urban legends suggest that men who meet her cannot resist falling in love, as she allegedly possesses the power to cast a spell on them.

The lives and careers of men who have dated her have reportedly undergone significant transformations. For instance, Andre 3000 experienced profound changes in his spirituality, clothing choices, dietary habits, and ultimately, his career direction.  Common, another rapper who fell in love with Badu, also had his heart broken. He embarked on a secret trip to Cuba for a Santeria reading, a practice associated with a Satanic religion.  Badu herself admitted to participating in a ritual during this trip. Both Andre 3000 and Common exhibited shifts toward a more spiritual style of dress and deeper involvement in deceptive occult practices during their relationships with her.

Common even described their relationship as "sacred." When Badu ended the relationship, he struggled with eating and sought therapy to cope with the pain.  Rapper D.O.C. similarly acknowledged being "enchanted" by her.  Badu capitalized on the attention she received for her romantic influence by releasing a perfume named "Badu's P---y," which claimed to mimic her scent. This perfume sold out rapidly, showcasing the appeal of the occult to the public.  Prior to the perfume, she introduced an incense made from the ashes of her underwear and essential oils. She described the process of creating fragrances as using the ashes from her old underwear that had been burned.

A visit to her online shop reveals an array of occult-related merchandise, including jumpers featuring Horus and Egyptian symbolism, her famous "I got a Crystal shoved up my a-- at Erykah Badu's concert and all I got was this lousy t-shirt," and cannabis smoking accessories.  As one delves deeper into research, it becomes evident that there are compelling reasons to reconsider following and idolizing her, as it can potentially lead one away from faith and towards the worship of celebrities instead of Jesus Christ, the true object of Christian devotion.  I invite every Christian to continue praying for celebrities like Badu, with the hope that they may recognize the deception surrounding them and turn their lives toward Christ.
